Today, for the first time since 1920, an editorial appeared on the front page of the New York Times. In 1920, the Times decried the nomination of Republican Warren G. Harding as a candidate for president. Today, the Times expressed outrage and sadness at the inaction of all politicans. Some will doubtless claim that this is a partisan jab at conservatives. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The true “moral outrage and national disgrace” is the way Democrats have failed, at every level, to demonstrate leadership on gun control.
While some, myself included, are chastizing the wolves for their empty and insincere prayers, the sheep puff and bluster in the most asinine and ineffective ways. Words of outrage are empty. Calls for tougher regulations are meaningless. When people are being shot and killed every day, anything short of leveraging the full and considerable power of the Democratic Party to entirely dismantle the gun industry is insufficient.
Two wolves and a sheep may vote on what to have for dinner, but at present, the gun industry is feasting on the American people.
